Dan GilbertDan Gilbert, owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers and infamously bitter as LeBron James’ jilted suitor a few months ago, said he hasn’t gone out of his way to make James The Player Whose Name Shall Not Be Spoken around Quicken Loans Arena. But he went more than 10 minutes into a 12-minute gathering with reporters Tuesday before he uttered “LeBron” just once. No “James,” certainly no “LeBron James.”

The rest of the time, Gilbert talked of “the player,” “the player who left” and, in one case, the player who is “under contract with” another franchise.

So you had to figure that a question about James’ worthiness to have his jersey number retired some day in Cleveland wouldn’t get very far. Read the rest of this entry »

postheadericon LeBron sits out game with tight hamstring

LeBronNEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Miami Heat held out LeBron James against the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday night, saying his right hamstring remained tight from an exhibition game a night earlier.

The Heat initially said James was cramping when he left Tuesday night against Russian team CSKA Moscow and that he was not expected to play in New Orleans.

With James sidelined, fans who showed up at the New Orleans Arena were unable to see two of Miami’s biggest stars. Dwyane Wade has been out since straining his right hamstring in the Heat’s first preseason game. Both were on the bench in warmups.

LeBronHURLBURT FIELD, Fla. (AP) — On Day 1, LeBron James looked perfectly comfortable in new surroundings.

He pumped his fist after passing over a double-team and setting Joel Anthony up for a dunk. He got wide-eyed after breaking free in a defensive drill for a thunderous slam that left teammates more than impressed. He shouted instructions during drills, then got into an animated argument with Dwyane Wade over a scoring dispute as practice was ending.

“That’s just me,” James said.
