postheadericon Nuggets’ Billups day-to-day with knee injury

Denver NuggetsDENVER (AP) — An MRI on Denver Nuggets point guard Chauncey Billups’ strained left knee revealed no serious damage Monday and he’s listed as day-to-day.

Billups was injured early in the first half of Denver’s game against Houston on Monday night and he didn’t return to the court. He said he had no idea how he got hurt, only that it was a non-contact injury.

The Nuggets lost 108-103 despite 19 points from Ty Lawson, who replaced Billups and was forced to play 34 minutes despite a strained left knee that had kept him out of a game over the weekend.

Billups’ availability for Wednesday night’s game against Golden State could be a game-time decision. If he can’t play, Lawson will likely split time with Anthony Carter at the point.

postheadericon Anthony’s double figure scoring streak ends

Phoenix SunsDenver Nuggets leading scorer Carmelo Anthony left Sunday’s game with an illness and did not return.

Anthony started against the Phoenix Suns and scored two points and grabbed three rebounds in 2:48 before leaving the game. He sat on the bench the rest of the first half and then left the building at halftime, according to a team representative.

Anthony’s streak of scoring in double figures ended at 134 regular season games. The last time he failed to score at least 10 in a game was Nov. 30, 2008, against Houston, when he scored two points.

postheadericon The Lakers Suffered Their First Loss of Season

Embedded Lakers their first defeat of the season, falling by 118 to 112 against the Denver Nuggets in a great match played at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

After 8 consecutive wins, Phil Jackson’s team left unbeaten start to the season, despite the dramatic match which again made the Catalan Pau Gasol, one of the fittest players at this time.

Gasol did a great job in the two baskets, contributing 17 points and grabbed 20 rebounds, while Kobe Bryant with 34 points was the scorer of the night.

But this did not reach, the Lakers were making a great game, but threw it all in the fourth quarter, where Denver took the lead, and with a partial 33-19 hashed out the match in his favor.

Led by Carmelo Anthony, who had a fantastic night with 32 points and 12 rebounds, well supported by Chauncey Billups (15), Nene Hilario (18) and Lawson (17) mainly the Nuggets and finished with the Lakers unbeaten.

In another match of the night, the Celtics came back to defeat the Miami Heat to 112 to 107.

Celtics veterans returned to show the “beach boys” that much more work ahead. Despite the great exhibition of LeBron James (35 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists), Miami ended up giving in to the experience of the local computer. Read the rest of this entry »

postheadericon Mutombo dishes out advice to Carmelo

MutomboIn town to support a friend, former Denver Nuggets center Dikembe Mutombo couldn’t resist doling out a little friendly advice to Carmelo Anthony.

Careful what you wish for.

“You think the grass is going to be greener on the other side, because you think it’s not raining here right now,” said Mutombo, who was in Denver on Wednesday to support friend and newly hired Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri as the team opened the season against the Utah Jazz. “But by the time you walk to the other side, it might not be green. You might be going to the same dry season you experienced in the other part.”

Since Mutombo serves as the global ambassador for the league, though, he didn’t feel it was right to personally chat with Anthony about his situation, delivering his message instead through the media. Read the rest of this entry »
