Stoner gets the pole and will start third in MotoGP Lorenzo
The Australian Team Repsol Honda, Casey Stoner, has claimed pole position in the Grand Prix of Great Britain, while Spanish Jorge Lorenzo will start third, behind Italy’s Marco Simoncelli.
Lorenzo started the session strong and soon became the fastest time, far from Simoncelli and Stoner. The Spanish leader was over 40 minutes, but when 18 minutes remained for the flag fall, Stoner managed to beat his time.
The Australian record was very good and difficult to overcome, but Simoncelli got it down and let the clock in 2:02.389. Three tenths separated Lorenzo on pole, while Stoner was to 136 thousandths of Italian. At that time, decided to enter Simoncelli ‘boxes’ to make some tweaks and Stoner took advantage to reduce the time of 2:02.020 and leave it in Italian, when there were eight minutes left.
Lorenzo tried in the time remaining, but the Spaniard could do nothing before the time the Australian had to settle for third place.
For the rest of Spanish Alvaro Bautista has done a good job and starts ninth, while Hector Barbera has had to settle for twelfth place. In addition, Toni Elias will output in fourteenth place, just behind Italy’s Valentino Rossi, who has not found anything comfortable with his Ducati in the session on Saturday.
