Anthony Davis commits to Kentucky
Chicago Perspective senior forward Anthony Davis has committed to Kentucky.
Davis, a 6-foot-10 forward, is the top-ranked 2011 Illinois prospect and is No. 12 overall by ESPN recruiting. Davis was an unknown before the spring due to lack of exposure, but burst on the scene after showing off a rare versatility for a player his size while playing with Illinois-based MeanStreets.
“I didn’t know much about him before the spring,” MeanStreets coach Tai Streets said. “Just to see how everything came so fast for him is amazing. Now he’s going to one of the best schools in the country. It’s pretty amazing.”
Davis was recruited by nearly every top program in the country and decided on the Wildcats over DePaul, Ohio State and Syracuse.
“Coach [John] Calipari is easy to talk to and he listens to what you are saying,” Davis told ESPN’s Paul Biancardi. “[Calipari] will be a father figure to me away from home. He’s a demanding coach that will not tell me what I want to hear, but what I need to hear to improve.”
Davis’ recruitment has been a major topic of discussion in recent weeks after the Chicago Sun-Times reported someone close to the Kentucky program had agreed to pay $200,000 to secure his commitment, and that Davis’ father, Anthony Davis Sr., had asked three other schools for $125,000-$150,000. Kentucky and the Davis family have denied the allegations.
